What is Exchange Betting?

A betting exchange is a platform that allows people with differing opinions on the same event to bet against one another without the need for a bookmaker. The betting exchange offers customers greater choice and flexibility and can offer better value.

The Ladbrokes Exchange operates under a ‘fill and kill’ remit whereby it is only possible to ‘take’ the prices and liquidity that are available on the exchange.  The Ladbrokes Exchange does not allow customers to make an offer and consequently will not allow any bet or portion of a bet to be unmatched.  All unmatched or partially matched bets will be cancelled and customers will have to resubmit their bet where there original bet is not matched.

You can use the exchange in many ways:

  • At its simplest you can BACK any selection to win an event. You can also choose to LAY - bet on a selection not winning an event.

  • You can manage your bets so that you can trade into a profit before an event has even started.

  • You can experience the real thrill of betting with fellow users while an event is taking place.

How to place a bet on the Ladbrokes Exchange

To back a selection to win at the best odds available, click on the odds displayed in the Back box.

This will call up a bet slip on the right hand side of your screen. Enter the amount you wish to stake at those odds. You will then see what your total return on that bet would be, were it to win.

Click Submit and your bet will be sent to the exchange. You will then receive a confirmation of whether your bet has been accepted and matched.

To lay a selection (or back it not to win) at the best odds available, click on the odds displayed in the ‘Lay’ box

This will call up a bet slip on the right hand side of the screen. When you are laying, enter the amount you want to win from somebody else - the backers’ stake. That figure, less commission, is your potential profit on the bet. You will also see your potential loss (liability), should the bet be accepted and the selection wins. This figure represents your maximum loss on that bet.

Click ‘Submit’ and your bet will be sent to the exchange. You will then receive a confirmation of whether your bet has been accepted.

  • Place a Back Bet in 4 Easy Steps

    Step 1: Select a Market

Find the market you wish to bet on by clicking on the relevant sport on the left hand navigation bar. All of the events for that sport will then appear within the same area, grouped by date, competition or meeting. Click on the individual event to bring up a menu of all the betting markets that are available at that time. Select the relevant market to load it onto your screen.

    Step 2: Back Your Selection

Select the back box for the selection that you want to bet on. The best price available for each selection in a market is displayed in the highlighted Back box. The number displayed under the odds is the maximum amount currently offered at this price.

Note: Exchange odds default to decimal format for all new exchange users. As an example, 8.0 is equal to 7/1, 2.75 is equal to 7/4. To change the odds to Fractional go to Account Settings and select Fractional Odds.

    Step 3: Enter Your Stake

After clicking the 'Back' box, a betting slip will display in the right of the screen. It will already include the best odds available. In the box marked 'Your Stake' you should enter the amount you wish to stake at those odds.

Once you are happy with your bet click the Submit button.

    Step 4: Verify Bet

Once the bet has been submitted you will get a chance to verify your bet. After doing so, click Confirm Bet and you will be given a confirmation that your bet has been submitted.

    There are then 3 possibilities:

    1.    Your bet will be fully matched
    2.    Your bet will be partially matched, which means that only a portion of your bet was matched and the remainder will be cancelled.  The unmatched stake will be returned to your Exchange Account balance
    3.    Your bet was not matched and will be cancelled (i.e. another customer matched this bet before you or the other side cancelled their request).  The unmatched stake will be returned to your Exchange Account balance.

  • Place a Lay Bet in 4 Easy Steps

    Step 1: Select a Market

Find the market you wish to bet on by clicking on the relevant sport on the left hand navigation bar. All of the events for that sport will then appear within the same area, grouped by date, competition or meeting. Click on the individual event to bring up a menu of all the betting markets that are available at that time. Select the relevant market to load it onto your screen.

    Step 2: Lay Your Selection

Select the ‘Lay’ Box  for the selection that you want to lay. The shortest price available for layers for each selection is displayed in the first Lay box. The money amount displayed underneath the odds is the amount which backers are looking to stake at those odds. You can lay all or part of the amount at the odds. For example, if you want to lay Chelsea at 3.1 to win £100, your liability would be £210. If you want to lay Arsenal at 8.50 to win £50, your liability would be £375.

The shorter the odds, the less the liability you incur to win a particular amount.

    Step 3: Enter Your Stake

After clicking the 'Lay' box, a betting slip will appear in the right of the screen. It will already include the best odds available to Lay. In the box marked 'Stake' enter the amount you are looking to win from the backer in the event of the selection not winning. Your potential loss or liability will appear on the Bet Slip.

Once you are happy with your bet click the 'Place Bet(s)' button.

    Step 4: Verify Bet

Once the bet has been submitted you will get a chance to verify your bet. After doing so, click Confirm Bet and you will be given a Bet Receipt confirming that your bet has been submitted.

    There are then 3 possibilities:

    1.    Your bet will be fully matched
    2.    Your bet will be partially matched, which means that only a portion of your bet was matched and the remainder will be cancelled.  The unmatched amount will be returned to your Exchange Account balance
    3.    Your bet was not matched and will be cancelled (i.e. another customer matched this bet before you or the other side cancelled their request).  The unmatched amount will be returned to your Exchange Account balance.

Commission

Commission is paid by customers based on their net winnings in a market. No commission is payable where the customer has made a net loss on a market.

Normal Commission Rate

Ladbrokes Exchange charges a flat 2% commission fee to customers on all Exchange Net Market Winnings and on all Virtuals Sports Markets (‘Normal Commission Rate’)
Commission points have no impact in the calculation of the amount of commission you pay and may be used in marketing or loyalty programs. Commission points are awarded to customers on the following basis: One exchange commission point is earned for each £25/€40/$40 won or lost across exchange markets. Points have no cash redemption value at any time.

‘Normal Commission Rate’ applied to all consumer customers on the Ladbrokes Exchange and Virtuals. Different rates may apply to accounts in other customer categories such as commercial customers or customers with heavy usage of the Exchange. Ladbrokes Exchange will notify non consumer customers in advance if their accounts become subject to charges other than the ‘Normal Commission Rate’.

In-Play betting

The exchange model has the ability to allow bets to be made in-running or in-play (i.e. to make bets while a race or match is in progress) without undue risk to the operator. This feature is available on the most popular events for which widespread, live television coverage is available.

Whereas not-in-play bets are entered into the system immediately after being placed by the customer, when betting in-play a time delay might be instituted so as to level the playing field for all customers involved in the market. Markets may also be actively managed by the operator. In this case, betting will be briefly halted after each occurrence likely to cause a substantial change in the odds (for example, in association football matches goals, penalty kicks and sending’s off would warrant such suspensions), so that unmatched bets can be cancelled.

Minimum / Maximum Bet

The minimum stake on the Ladbrokes Exchange is listed in the following table by currency. The maximum stake is determined by your account balance.

Matched Bets

Your bet is confirmed once when it has been ‘matched’. This means that someone has taken the opposite side of the bet. The same as you might when buying a car, the deal is only done when both parties come to an agreement. On a betting exchange, the deal is done, when the price someone is willing to lay at, is the same as the price someone is willing to back at. Please note once a bet is matched it cannot be cancelled.

What is Best Execution?

It can often happen on the Exchange that just before you take a bet at certain odds, someone else might offer even better ones. If this happens while your bet is being processed, you will automatically receive the best odds available.

Exchange Wallet

Funds must be transferred to the exchange wallet in order to place bets on the exchange. Transferring funds is simple.

Firstly, select ‘My Account’ and then choose the ‘Transfer’ section. From here you can move funds between your wallets.

If you need assistance depositing or withdrawing from your main Ladbrokes wallet, click here for more information.

If you experience any difficulties transferring, depositing, or withdrawing funds, please call our customer services help desk on 0800 731 41 71. If you are outside the UK - telephone us on +44 208 429 7971. Alternatively, email us at: myaccount@ladbrokes.com.

Live Bets Panel

The Live Bets panel located at the bottom of the screen displays your live bets.

Click on the + button to open or reduce the panel once you are logged in to your account.

The odds column indicates the odds at which your bet was matched.

Exchange Betting Display Options & Features

Display Stake

Customise your event card by requesting to display bets above a certain amount.

If you are only interested in bets above a certain amount, use the slider to select that amount and you'll see the odds at which that stake would be matched.

Of course, parts of the stake may well be matched at better odds, since Ladbrokes Exchange bets are always matched at the best odds available.

Push Technology

What is Push Technology?

Push technology on the exchange means that you can view market information and prices in real time. On the Ladbrokes exchange, customers can set the level of push notification suitable for their particular betting experience.

How do I control the push technology rate setting?

You can change the default settings for push technology refresh rates by channel in the exchange settings/preferences section of your account.

Cash Out

What is the Cash Out feature?

Cash Out is an exchange feature that allows you to close out your position by either locking in a profit or limiting your losses. The Cash Out feature automatically calculates the bets you need to place to do either. Offers are requested in real time based on live market prices. Cash Out offers are not guaranteed and are subject to movements in market prices.

Why wasn't my Cash Out successful?

Offers are requested in real time based on live market prices. Cash Out offers are not guaranteed and are subject to movements in market prices.

How do I manage Cash Out Preferences?

There are two cash out preferences you can amend. The first ‘Cash Out on Market’ simply allows you to turn on and off the Cash Out functionality.

The second ‘Cash Out Confirmation’ allows you to turn on and off the confirmation stage of Cash Out bet placement. We do not recommend that you turn off the Cash Out confirmation stage of your bet.

Display Pro Forma P&L

What is Pro Forma P&L?

Pro Forma P&L allows you to see your potential profit and loss before you place your bet. A second Profit and Loss figure will display on the Event Card to show what your P&L figure would be if the bets to be placed were matched.

How do I control the Pro Forma P&L setting?

You can choose to display the Pro Forma P&L on the betting slip by enabling this feature in the exchange settings/preferences section of your account.

Back to Win

How do I control the Back to win setting?

You can choose to display Back to Win on the betting slip by enabling this feature in the exchange settings/preferences section of your account.

Lay to Lose/Payout

Choose to display the Lay to Lose/Payout option on the betting slip.
  • Payout: The maximum amount you can win on a given bet.

  • Lay to Lose: If you have a particular figure that you are willing to risk as a layer, you can enter this amount on the bet slip and the exchange will calculate the backers stake this equates to on your behalf.

How do I control the Lay to Lose/Payout setting?

You can choose to display Lay to Lose/Payout on the betting slip by enabling this feature in the exchange settings/preferences section of your account.

Over Round

What is Over Round %?

The over round or percentage book appears at the top of the betting screen and indicates how competitive the odds are in a particular event. In a perfect market the percentage book is 100%. A low over round is better for backers while a high over round is better for layers.

How do I control the Over Round setting?

By selecting to Display Over Round from My Preferences, you will be able to see the percentage you are proposing to bet to when you are filling in your betting slip.

Each Way Figures

When betting in an each way market the each way returns on a bet can be displayed at the bottom of the bet slip allowing you to see the ‘If Win’, ‘If Placed’ and ‘If Unplaced’ profit. They are displayed by default.

How do I control the Each Way setting?

You can choose to display Each Way on the betting slip by enabling this feature in the exchange settings/preferences section of your account.

What is the Back All Feature?
The ‘Back All’ feature allows you to back all the selections with an available price within a market. To activate the ‘Back All’ feature simply click the label ‘Back All’ on the Exchange event card. This will populate the betslip automatically for you with all selections that are available to back.

What is the Lay All Feature?
The ‘Lay All’ feature allows you to back all the selections with an available price within a market. To activate the ‘Lay All’ feature simply click the  label ‘Lay All’ on the Exchange event card. This will populate the betslip automatically for you with all selections that are available to lay.

Exchange Multiples

How do I place an Exchange Multiple?

To make the first choice in a Multiple, simply go to the market and make a selection as if placing a single bet and click on the guide price. This selection will be added to the Multiples betslip on the right side of your screen.

Continue adding selections to your Multiple betslip. Only one selection per event can be added to a Multiple bet. The Ladbrokes Exchange can support up to 15 selections in any Multiple Bet .

Once you have added all of the required selections to your multiple bet, you can enter the stake/s for the bet you would like to place.
Simply click/select ‘Place Bet(s)’. This will bring you to the multiple bet confirmation screen. If you are happy to proceed click/select ‘confirm’.

What types of Exchange Multiple Bets are offered?

In making a selection, you are choosing to back that selection. Please note it is not possible to lay a selection as part of a multiple bet. All selections must win for the multiple bet to be settled as a winner.

In the event of one or more of your selections not taking part your bet will be regarded as having one less leg i.e. a treble becomes a double etc.

All selections in multiple bets including related contingencies are subject to Ladbrokes Exchange rules. The different bet types for 2 or more selections are shown below:

Exchange Multiples Terms and Conditions

1. "Multiple Bets" consist of a number of legs, where each leg is one or more selections from an individual market or event. A maximum of seven selections can currently be combined in multiples, although we reserve the right to amend this number from time to time. All selections in a Multiple Bet are subject to these Exchange Rules.
2. Certain combinations of selections, including related contingencies, are not accepted and attempts to place such bets may be prompted with an error pop-up at the bet submission stage. If a bet of this type is inadvertently taken in error, we reserve the right to void the relevant, individual bet combinations.

3. If a selection in a Multiple Bet is a non-runner or otherwise void under the Exchange Rules then all bets on that leg of the multiple will be void and the Multiple Bet will be adjusted accordingly, eg a treble becomes a double; a double becomes a single etc.
4.The minimum total Stake for a multiple is £/€/$USD/$SGP1. The minimum total Stake per line is £/€/$USD/$SGP0.05. For example, a 5 cent "Super Yankee" with 26 different bets and a total Stake of €1.30 is allowed but a 4 cent "Super Yankee" would not. Similarly, a 50 cent "Trixie" with a total Stake of €2 is allowed but a 20 cent "Trixie" with a total Stake of only 80 cent would not. For currencies other than Euro the minimum Stake may not equate; however, the calculations as described above remain the same. The maximum payout from our Multiple Bet product, to any one Customer on any one day's business is £/€/$USD/$SGP250,000.
5.Any Customer acting in an attempt to defraud the Exchange will have their Multiple Bets voided. We reserve the right to void Multiple Bets in the case of egregious or obvious errors.
6.We reserve the right to void any or all bets made by any Customer acting in an attempt to defraud it where there is any evidence of price, race, match or event rigging or in the case of a rule breach applied by the governing body of the sport concerned. Where such evidence exists of rigging or some other act which has unfairly affected the result, or where there is evidence of a series of bets each containing the same selection(s) having been placed by or for the same individual or syndicate of individuals, we reserve the right to make bets void or withhold payment of returns pending the outcome of any subsequent investigation.
7. We reserve the right to withdraw the availability of the multiples betting product from any customer at any time at our sole discretion. Where we take such action it will be communicated directly to the account holder and all multiple bets placed through such an account after this communication is sent will be voided.
8.Not all markets available will be available for multiple betting. We reserve the right to determine which markets will be made available for multiple betting. The odds available for Exchange Multiple Bet will be derived from the exchange price for the corresponding singles market.
