What is Asian Line Handicap Betting?

Asian Line bets are placed on either the favoured team to overcome a handicap (-goals) or on the opposing team receiving a handicap on top of their actual score (+goals).

For two equally matched teams, the handicap line is 0 or 'level'. If either team wins by any margin they (the winning team) are to be settled as the winning selection. In the event of a draw all bets are void and stakes are refunded.

For unequal contests, the favoured team will be given a handicap (-goals). In Asian betting, goal handicaps are known as 'balls'.

There are two types of Asian Handicap Line:

Simple Handicap (sometimes called Single Handicap)

Bets placed on Simple (whole unit) Handicap Lines (e.g. 0,1,2 ball), can either win on the stated return, lose, or have their stake returned should the result be a draw on the basis of the handicap.

For Example

Handicap line 1 ball

Team giving a full ball start:
  • Win by 2 or more - All bets on this selection are winners.
  • Win by exactly 1 - All bets on this selection are void and refunded to the customer.
  • Draw or lose - All bets on this selection are losers.
Team receiving a full ball start:
  • Win by any score or draw - All bets on this selection are winners.
  • Lose by exactly 1 - All bets on this selection are void and refunded to the customer.
  • Lose by 2 or more - All bets on this selection are losers.

Example of Calculating Whole Ball Winnings/Returns:

A £10 bet on Sunderland "+1" at odds of 2.03:

  1. If the match finishes as an any score draw:

    • Returns = 10 x 2.03 = £20.30
  2. If Sunderland lose by 1 goal:

    • Returns = £10

Bets placed on Simple (non-whole unit) Handicap Lines (e.g. 0.5,1.5,2.5 ball) can only win or lose as a draw will not occur.

For Example

Handicap line 0.5 ball

Team giving a 0.5 ball start:
  • Win by any score - All bets on this selection are winners.
  • Draw - All bets on this selection are losers.
  • Lose by any score - All bets on this selection are losers.
Team receiving a 0.5 ball start:
  • Win by any score - All bets on this selection are winners.
  • Draw - All bets on this selection are winners.
  • Lose by any score - All bets on this selection are losers.

Example of Calculating Half Ball Winnings/Returns:

A £10 bet on Liverpool "+0.5" at odds of 1.79:

If Liverpool win or the match finishes as an any score draw:

  • Returns = 10 x 1.79 = £17.90

Split Handicap (sometimes called Double or Twin Handicap)

A bet on a Split Handicap Line is split into two parts - one part of the bet is on a whole unit line and one part on a non-whole unit line. If the Handicap line was 1 and 1.5 ball, half the bet would be struck at 1 and the other half at 1.5.

For Example

Handicap line 0/ 0.5 ball

Team giving a 0/ 0.5 ball start:
  • Win by any score - All bets on this selection are winners.
  • Draw - Half the stakes are refunded on this selection. The other half of the stake is classed as a loser.
  • Lose by any score - All bets on the selection are losers.
Team receiving 0/ 0.5 ball start:
  • Win by any score - All bets on this selection are winners.
  • Draw - Half the stake is settled at the price of the chosen selection. The other half is refunded to the customer.
  • Lose by any score - All bets on the selection are losers.

Handicap line 0.5/ 1 ball

Team giving a 0.5/ 1 ball start:
  • Win by 2 or more - All bets on this selection are winners.
  • Win by exactly 1 - Half the stake is settled at the price of the chosen selection. The other half is refunded to the customer.
  • Draw or lose by any score - All bets on this selection are losers.
Team receiving a 0.5/ 1 ball start:
  • Draw or win by any score - All bets on this selection are winners.
  • Lose by exactly 1 - Half the stake is refunded to the customer. The other half is classed as a loser.
  • Lose by 2 or more - All bets on this selection are losers.

Example of Calculating Split Ball Winnings/Returns:

A £10 bet on Stoke "0.0, +0.5" at odds of 1.77 is split into 2 bets:

  1. £5 on Stoke "0.0"
  2. £5 on Stoke "+0.5"

Calculate the 2 parts separately:

  1. If the match finishes as an any score draw:
    1. £5 refunded
    2. £5 win at 1.77

    Returns = 5 + (5 x 1.77) = 5 + 8.85 = £13.85

  2. If Stoke win the match:
    1. £5 win at 1.77
    2. £5 win at 1.77

    Returns = (5 x 1.77) + (5 x 1.77) = 8.85 + 8.85 = £17.70
